Current Status:On 23 January 2009 the Official Receiver was appointed as the company’s provisional liquidator.

The company ceased trading on 20 September 2008.

The company’s main business was the provision of a money transfer service. Most of the company’s customers were UK-based Filipino migrant workers sending funds to family members based in the Philippines.

The company was formerly called Far East Services Ltd and Far East Express Services Ltd

On 14 January 2009 the Secretary of State for the Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform applied to the High Court in London for: (1) the company to be placed into liquidation by the court (known as a winding-up petition); and (2) the appointment of the Official Receiver as provisional liquidator pending final determination of the winding-up petition. The winding-up petition is due to be heard on 4 March 2009.

The application to court was made by the Secretary of State in the public interest following an investigation carried out by Companies Investigation Branch (part of the Insolvency Service) in the United Kingdom.

The grounds for the Secretary of State’s application (i.e. the allegations made against the company) are that:

  • the company lacked commercial probity because it lost clients’ monies and it used clients’ monies improperly;

  • the company traded whilst insolvent;

  • the company has been abandoned by its directors;

  • 1 of the company’s directors provided Companies Investigation Branch with conflicting or inadequate information.

The Official Receiver was the company’s provisional liquidator and on 4 March 2009 he was appointed by the court as the company’s liquidator.

The Official Receiver issued a report to all known creditors on 23 April 2009.

The Official Receiver issued a further report to creditors on 21 May 2010 concerning the disqualification of all of the company’s directors.
